Recently my friends father had an old Dell Inspiron wiped clean.
I tried to install Windows 98 onto it, and it stated that it already had an operating system installed on it. Each time I restart the computer the windows screen flashes on quickly and then goes immediately to a C: prompt. I tried some things but none seemed to work. I am not sure if the autoexec file is working properly, or what the problem is.
Every time I boot up It asks for Username and Password. I'm the only who uses the system and it keeps my computer from starting completely until I put it in. I even set the password to nothing, but windows still hangs on the prompt until i click ok. Hi guys. I was just wondering, is it possible to remove the windows logon window when window starts up? I mean, when windows starts up, there is a window with two spots to type in the user name and password. I don't want to delete the user name because the computers are on a network and they need to know what computer they are, I just want to disable the window from showing up, because it's annoying.

That should do it. Machines network based on computername and sharename not username so in a workgroup deleting and recreating the username should not matter. Username would only be relevant in a domain where the actual account would be kept on a server.
